Understanding ingredients are hard. One day one food product is promoted as healthy for you, and the next day it’s announced that it is harmful.

Makes you want to throw in the nutritional towel and give up trying to make smart health choices, doesn’t it? Well, don’t!!!

Eating the right foods can build you a healthy body that feels and functions amazing. You don’t want to miss out on that!

One of the foods I want to demystify for you is SOY.

There are many places you will be exposed to soy; your protein powder, your power bar, even your latte at Starbucks.

Here is what you need to know about the harmful effects of soy:

  • 99% of soy is genetically modified and it among the highest contamination by pesticides of any of our foods.
  • Soybeans are high in phytic acid, a substance that blocks the uptake of the essential minerals calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and especially zinc, in the intestinal tract.
  • Soy products contain high levels of aluminum, leached from the aluminum tanks in which they are acid washed and processed at high temperatures.
  • Nitrites, which are potent carcinogens, are formed during the spray-drying of soy.
  • Soy Protein Isolates, which are shown to enlarge the pancreas and thyroid and increase fatty acid deposits in the liver.
  • Soy contains toxic isoflavones.
  • Soy foods have a high concentration of goitrogens which block the production of thyroid hormones

Many people ask me if ORGANIC soy is ok. The positives of organic soy is that it is not genetically modified and sprayed with Round-Up, but it still contains harmful substances that destroy thyroid function and can add to your heavy metal toxic load.

As always, be sure you are reading labels. Soy protein isolate is an ingredient that will destroy your health fast. Many of you will launch into the 45-Day Reset with a protein powder with this ingredient in it. Not only will this make your reset process frustrating, you will be building disease, not health.

And next time you are at Starbuck’s, hold the soy in your latte.

Make it health day!
