What is actually making us sensitive to carbohydrates?
Maria Emmerich is a nutritionist who specializes in the ketogenic diet and exercise physiology. She struggled with her health and weight throughout childhood, which lead her to become such a passionate nutrition expert. “My goal is to help transform people’s lives and start living again!” Maria specializes in brain neurotransmitters and how food can increase mental wellness. Her expertise has sent her around the world, speaking about ketogenic diets.

Maria took her golden retriever to the vet because she was losing patches of hair. The first question the vet asked was, what are you feeding her? Instead of giving her dog medication, the vet told Maria to feed her dog raw beef. Animals don’t eat rice and vegetables, so why are we feeding it to our dogs? Therefore, both Maria and her dog went on keto.
Take your focus off of the scale.
The blood meter is a more practical way to test your health. If someone is obsessed with their blood meter, there is a mindset issue. Plus, the longer you have been doing the keto diet, the more efficient your body uses those ketones.
When you show up authentically in the world, your business will also grow authentically. Maria just wanted to serve people in her business, and it took off! Yes, COVID-19 stinks, but you can find an opportunity and go for it. If you want to be successful, you need to find the positive aspects of any situation. It’s okay to feel upset, but dwelling in it will create a negative cycle.
Most cookbooks do not include macros in their recipes. However, Maria includes it in her cookbooks. Macros are different for everybody because lean mass is different. If you don’t know your lean mass, Maria helps you figure it out. Maria says that her macro calculator is a tool that will help you be more efficient.
Then, Maria explains how you can lose lean mass quickly. The only way to keep your lean mass is protein. Vegetarians can keep lean mass if they eat a lot of eggs. Keto vegetarians are not getting enough amino acids. If you think being a vegetarian is healthy, Maria says it’s not because a majority of your nutrients will come from meat.
Plus, Maria reveals what it’s like being on the carnivore diet.
Carnivore waffles are meat and eggs mixed into a waffle maker – it’s fantastic! Typically, Maria eats steak and fish for lunch. For dinner, Maria eats scrambled eggs with salmon. Also, Maria makes carnivore bread using eggs, brown butter, and cheese sauce.

Was wondering what about cycling for your hormone days (day 21)? How can you eat carnivore and sweet potatoes?
I’m brand new to the resetter lifestyle and I just loved this podcast with Maria. I’ve been so inspired by Dr. Mindy to do the fasting lifestyle and now, I feel inspired to try carnivore.
