This is a common question that patients ask.
In fact, many people are hesitant to start the 45-Day Reset because they don’t want to give up coffee.
So today I want to give you the pros and cons of drinking coffee. If you follow the recommendations I have at the bottom of this article, you can still drink coffee while on your 45-day reset.
1.Coffee is a stimulant.
Coffee stimulates your adrenal glands. You know what else stimulates your adrenals? Stress.
If you are living a high stressed life and drinking several cups of coffee a day, you will wear your adrenals out. When the adrenals are burnt out, getting out of bed is difficult. You will crash at three in the afternoon. And when adrenal fatigue is at it’s worse, you may find you wake up at 2 or 3 in the morning for no particular reason. If this is you, you need to give up coffee to begin to rebuild your adrenals.
2.Coffee can destroy your blood sugar
If you are trying to lose weight, you need to stabilize your blood sugar.
Coffee can make that difficult. For some, coffee will act like a candy bar in their body, putting your blood sugar on a rollercoaster of ups and downs. The best way to know if your blood sugar is adversely effected by coffee is to test. I like the precision ketone and blood sugar reader. It’s easy to use, inexpensive, and you can find one on Amazon. Test your blood sugar first thing in the morning and right after coffee and notice if goes up or down. If it goes up after coffee, you know need to try adding a good fat into your morning cup.
3.Coffee is packed with chemicals
One of my favorite nutritional sayings is “Don’t count calories, count chemicals”. Chemicals will destroy your health fast. Unfortunately, the coffee you are getting at Starbucks is the biggest offender. In each dose of Starbucks coffee, you are getting a cup of pesticides. Pesticides are known carcinogens. My recommendation is to always get your coffee organic.
1.Coffee can be a great vehicle for fat
What?? Yep, you heard me right. For those of you trying to get into nutritional ketosis, your cup of coffee is a great place to put scoopfuls of fat. I often put butter and coconut oil in my coffee. The brain is 60% fat. When you add fat to your coffee you send the caffeine directly to your brain. It makes you alert, with out feeling jittery. If you are one of those people who’s blood sugar spikes after coffee, buttered coffee can be a great tool to stabilize it.
2.Coffee can help you intermittent fast
For those of you trying intermittent fasting, buttered coffee in the morning can help you make it 15 hours without food.
If you are not familiar with intermittent fasting, go back and read some of my past articles on the subject. Intermittent fasting is an incredible tool for getting your body to repair itself. It can lower inflammation, unstick you from weight loss resistance, and dramatically improve your mental clarity.
3.Coffee can improve your mental cognition
We all know that coffee wakes us up, but did you know it’s proven to make you smarter? In small doses, caffeine can be a wonderful tool to use for mental clarity and focus. But it’s the type of coffee you make that effects your brain.
My rules for making coffee healthy are:
Have a healthy day!
