I hear this all to often from patients.
They look at their Mom’s health, and they say I don’t want to turn out like that. I don’t want to get cancer like she did. I don’t want Alzhemier’s. I don’t want to have a cascade of health problems that begin at menopause.
Well I have good news for you. Just because you share the same genes as your mother, you don’t have to have the same health as she had.
There is a wonderful new science that has emerged called Epigenetics.
Epigenetics is the study of how we can turn genes on or off through our lifestyle choices.
A study done out of the Duke University forever changed the way we look at obesity and genetics. Researchers took a pair of twin mice that were known to have the genetic expression for obesity. They were fed the same food and give the same amount of exercise. The only difference between the two, is one twin was exposed to BPA plastic.
The result? The twin mouse that was exposed to the plastic gained significant weight and his hair turned yellow. The plastic turned on the gene for obesity.
How does this apply to you?
Well if you want to have the same health your parents and grandparents did, just live the same lifestyle they did. If you want a different health path, then you are going to have to do things differently.
But where do you start? How do you know what the healthiest path is for you?
Well there are some basic health principles that you should be applying that will minimize the possibility of turning on these harmful genes. Here are some of my recommendations:
1. Stop Eating Fake Food
I’ve said this many times in articles I’ve written and lectures I’ve given. Processed, packaged food will destroy your health. It might not happen right away, but over the years the bio accumulation of the toxins in these foods will turn on harmful genes in your body.
If you don’t know what foods are fresh and which ones are fake. Read labels. If there is a word in the ingredient list you can’t pronounce, it’s fake. Or better yet, stick to foods that don’t have a label.
2. Stop Putting Chemicals On Your Skin
Your shampoos, lotions, deodorant, make up, lipstick, perfume can destroy your health. They are packed with chemicals. Many are known endocrine disruptors. Download the Think Dirty App and scan all your products. Any beauty products that scores a 4 or higher, needs to be tossed.
Look at your beauty products and ask yourself “Would I eat this?”. If the answer is no. Then it’s not natural. There are a lot of great natural products out there you just have to go searching for them.
3. Stop Relying On Medications To Heal You
What?? Aren’t medications suppose to help me? All medications are man made. They are synthetic. This means NOTHING in them are natural. ALL medications have side effects.
Antibiotics for example, kill ALL the bacteria in your gut. Good and bad ones. A single does can destroy your healthy microbiome and begin the process of building diseases such as autoimmune conditions, thyroid problems, and unexplained weight gain.
The flu shot is another example of a medication that is destroying your health. It has massive amounts of mercury in it that will turn on your gene for Alzheimer’s, dementia, anxiety, and depression.
To give you some reference point, it is recommended that you don’t eat tuna on a regular basis because it has 210 parts per billion of mercury. A flu shot has 81,000 parts per billion of mercury!
