Reading labels and understanding what is in your food, is my number one nutrition tip.

If you can’t decode the words on the back of a label, you will never be able to move your health forward.

In The Reset Factor Kitchen, our cookbook that is coming out this summer, I have included lists of ingredients and foods you want to stay away from. In working with thousands of people to reset their health, I have found that very few truly understand ingredients. And unfortunately, the food industry has purposely made it tricky.

I am making it my mission to simplify it for you. Today I want to introduce you to an ingredient that you will often see in health foods. Especially in nut milk and gluten-free items.

Carrageenan

Animal studies have repeatedly shown that food-grade carrageenan causes gastrointestinal inflammation and intestinal lesions, ulcerations, and even malignant tumors.

According to Dr. Stephen Hanauer, MD chief Gastroenterologist at University of Chicago School of Medicine “The rising incidence and prevalence of ulcerative colitis across the globe is correlated with the increased consumption of processed foods, including products containing carrageenan.”

And top wellness advocate, Dr. Andrew Weil, MD,  claims that all forms of carrageenan cause chronic inflammation. Lowering the inflammation levels in your body is key to avoiding many serious diseases such as heart disease, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and even Cancer.

My Recommendation: Read labels. Especially on dairy and alternative milk. Because it can be hard to find a nut milk that doesn’t have this harmful substance in it.

I also recommend making your own nut milk. It’s easier than you think. We will be including a yummy and easy recipe in The Reset Factor Kitchen, so stay tuned. If you are on Facebook like the Dr. Mindy Pelz page, we will be posting many of our new Reset Factor recipes through there.

Hope that helps! The key to succeeding at your food is keeping yourself educated. Eating well is like learning a new language, you have to keep applying it, hanging around others that speak it, and over time you will become fluent.

Have a healthy day!
