Watermelon is one of my favorite fruit, today I want to discuss the amazing health benefits of watermelon.

Every time you eat you are either building health or building disease. It’s that simple.

If you have been to any of my workshops, you know that one of my food rules is:

Eat nature’s food

But which of nature’s foods are best?

With summer upon us, there are many foods that you will find at your local store that will benefit your body greatly.

One of those foods is WATERMELON.

Watermelon is by far, one of the most powerful, body-healing fruits out there! The amazing health benefits of watermelon covers everything from your brain all the way to the cells in your feet.

When you think of watermelon, you might just think of its great taste. But watermelon will make more than your taste buds happy.

The following are 4 great healing benefits of watermelon:

1. Hydrating

Watermelon is 92% water. With the increase in heat in the summertime, getting enough water to the cells of your body can be difficult. So adding in foods that are packed with water is a great idea.

Keeping yourself well hydrated will improve your skin, keep the discs and ligaments of your spine healthy, and lower your appetite. In fact, many times when you are feeling hungry your body is just dehydrated and needs more water.

2. Reduces body fat

Yep. You read that right! Not only is watermelon yummy, it can help your body burn fat. Here’s how it works:

Watermelon contains an amino acid called Citrulline. The citrulline in watermelon has been shown to reduce the accumulation of fat in our fat cells.  Citrulline, when consumed, has the ability to block the activity of TNAP (tissue-nonspecific alkaline phosphatase) which makes our fat cells create less fat, and thus helps prevent over-accumulation of body fat.

Pretty cool, right?!

3. Lowers inflammation

Watermelon is rich in lycopene which is incredibly beneficial in reducing inflammation.

If you have done the meta-oxy urine test with us you know if your cells are inflamed or not.

Because of the toxic world we live in and a large number of stressors we are exposed to, our cells are often in a state of chronic inflammation. Once a cell is inflamed the outer membrane of that cell becomes rigid and won’t let toxins out of the cell or nutrients into the cell. This leads to a chronic inflammatory situation in your body. Adding watermelon to your daily diet will help to repair the outer membrane of your cells and lower that inflammation.

4. Prevents cancer

Watermelon is packed with Vit C & E, two key antioxidants that will protect your cells against free radical damage.

Those of you who have been to my Cancer Killer workshop, know that a cancer cell was once a healthy cell. Something damaged that healthy cell to turn it into a cancer cell. Usually, that comes from a toxin or stressor. Antioxidants like Vit C & E will protect that cell from damage.

When I coach a patient to better health, I like to get a starting point as to what breakdowns are happening in their body that needs repair. I never guess when creating a health plan, I always test. One of the tests I run is an Organic Acids Urine Test (aka biomarker test). Many of you have done this test with me.

It is common on this test to see patients low in Vit C & E. When deficient in these key antioxidants, you are leaving your body wide open to build cancer cells. Adding watermelon to your diet as often as possible, is a great step in giving your cells the protection it needs to stay healthy.

Hope that helps! Enjoy your watermelon over this fourth of July weekend.
